Connected, but alone?

Staying “connected” through social media but feeling alone is going to be of a vicious cycle for children born into the millennial generation and those that follow. Sherry Turkle talks about how what is enough face to face interaction for a middle-aged executive is a problem for say, their teenage child who needs to develop social skills. When their parent goes on their phone while the they are talking, that child will feel ignored and go looking for social connection on their phone. Eventually they will exabit the same learned behavior perpetuating the cycle.

  1. I agree that the use of technology can be largely a learned behavior as well as a supplement to those who do not feel as though they are being heard otherwise. I like the way you worked the title, “Connected but Alone,” into your comment and think that you did an excellent job expanding on, and explaining Turkle’s argument.
